Bradenton Preparatory Academy Coaching Philosophy
Congratulations on your choice to become a student-athlete at Bradenton Preparatory Academy. Your decision to add athletics to your life's journey will have many benefits. The efforts and hard work needed to play sports will only increase your chances of being successful later on in life. The lessons you will learn on the playing field unfortunately cannot be duplicated in the classroom in many instances. When you play a game, the objective is to WIN. We can't however win on the scoreboard all the time! What we can do is prepare mentally and physically to our utmost ability every time we practice or play. If we accomplish this every time we go out, no matter what the scoreboard says, you will be a winner!
CODES OF CONDUCT FOR ATHLETES
- Maintain the highest level of sportsmanship and conduct at all times.
- Respect players, coaches and officials at all times.
- Respect the privilege of having the opportunity to play and represent B.P.A. on a team.
- Attend all practice sessions honoring the above privilege.
- Respect the "zero tolerance" guidelines concerning the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
- Maintain your grades at a high level using athletics as an opportunity to improve your time management skills.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR ATHLETES
- Academics. The FHSAA requires students to maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and a 2.0 semester GPA to remain eligible. If you are ineligible at the end of the semester you will remain ineligible for the entire next semester. The administration at Bradenton Preparatory Academy reserves the right to curb athletic participation for a period of time even if the student meets the FHSAA requirements. This would be a case where a student is experiencing serious academic difficulty and is in danger of dropping below the 2.5 average. It is also the responsibility of the student to request permission to miss class from the appropriate teachers or directors.
- Practice Attendance. is mandatory. Athletes must attend all practice sessions. Exceptions can be made due to illness. Academics are not an excuse, learn to budget your time!
- School Attendance.Students must be in school to participate in after school activities. If a student has an excused tardy (i.e. medical appointment), participation may be allowed.
- Birth Certificate. A copy of the student's birth certificate or passport must be on file with the athletic director or school before the first day of practice. This is required for the first year of school attendance only.
- Dress. When a team leaves campus, they should follow the guidelines established by their coach. It is important that team members look acceptable while representing their school.
- Example: Boys-tie, shirt, pants
- Girls-dress clothes
- Parental Permission. A parent or guardian must sign a Bradenton Preparatory Academy permission slip for the student to participate in interscholastic sports. One permission slip per year will suffice for all sports in which the student chooses to participate.
- Physicals. All students who wish to participate on a school sponsored athletic team must have a current physical on record with the athletic director. The physical must be received the first day of scheduled practice.
- Student Drivers. If you wish to drive to events fill out a parental permission form. This cover Bradenton/Sarasota area only.
- Riding with a Student Driver A parental permission form must be filled out for this also.
- Uniforms. Uniforms will be given to you by the Head Coach prior to the beginning of each season. Players should follow the agreed upon guidelines for caring for the uniforms they have been assigned. Extra uniforms will not be given out. All uniforms should be cleaned and returned to your coach at the end of the season.
